FB Feat Erun "Who's Knockin' (Benny Benassi Remix) [Club Mix]"

Benny Benassi "Who's Your Daddy (Original Radio Edit)"

INTHEMIX.COM.AU: Benny Benassi, the producer forever stuck in the Australian conscious thanks to that Tooheys ad, serves up his latest effort, Who's Your Daddy. This is gritty, messy and wonderfully naughty. It's made for darkened clubs and grinding up against sweaty strangers. It's not sweet and innocent, and it doesn't pretend to be, so don't be shy now. Pant, wave your arms around and display your wild side. No please and thank you niceties here.

None of the remixes play nice, although David Guetta does add more House than Electro. If his remix gets played, this is your chance to grab a drink. Or run from the building if the sexual energy has all been too much. Otherwise be thankful that all six remixes wouldn't go astray in the modern day Marquais de Sade novel. Am I over exaggerating? Possibly, but that's the privilege of this music. It unashamedly celebrates hedonism and Benassi hasn't been sickening polite with this number. Enjoy.

William Orbit Exclusive Interview

FEMALEFIRST.CO.UK: In my youth, being an avid reader of style bible The Face, who always championed William Orbit as one of the coolest cats around, naturally, when I heard that I was going to have the pleasure of interviewing the Grammy Award-winning producer extraordinaire myself, to be honest, I was a little afraid.

After all, he is one of the most famous and experimental artists of modern times. Either he's fusing timeless classical pieces with the electronica of now, or busting out the high-energy dance tunes, with what seems, on the outside at least, to be done with minimal effort.

He's also one of the most sought after producers in the biz. Working his magic on albums from the likes of Madonna, (Ray Of Light) U2, (Electrical Storm) and Blur (13) just to name a few.

So when I got the chance to interview him about his new album, the ambient, melodic and dam-right beautiful ' Hello Waveforms' I expected him to be a bit, well, pretentious really.

Thankfully I was proven wrong. Not only is William friendly, open and honest, but he's bloody talented as well...

Apple's music store: Over 1 billion served

Apple Computer has sold 1 billion songs via its online music store.

At about 9:40 p.m. PST Wednesday, the company's online counter reached the 1 billion mark. For several minutes before the online counter crossed the threshhold, about five songs per second were being tallied, but with about 50,000 to go, the counter suddenly jumped to 1 billion and stopped.

To the purchaser of the billionth song, the company promised a 20-inch iMac (whether it's the model with the Intel chip was not specified), 10 60GB iPods, a $10,000 iTunes Music Card and "a full-ride scholarship in your name to a world-renowned music school."

Stay tuned for the identity of the winner.

Peace Division feat. Pleasant Gehman "Blacklight Sleaze"

DMCUPDATE.COM: Clive Henry & Justin Drake aka Peace Division have drafted in notorious Hollywood actress and club kid Pleasant Gehman, for a deep & sexy session on a dirty throbbing floor. 'Blacklight Sleaze' is built on infectious steamy rhythms & bass heavy pads, with Pleasant Gehman pushing up the heat as she teases. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing here, in the middle of this Times Square room, velvet smoke and damp carpet, soggy with spilled cheap Champagne, with the mirrors, flashing lights, plastic bowls half full of salted peanuts and their discarded shells. In this room with tired waitresses, lousey over priced drinks 'I feel sorry for the men sometimes, mostly I just feel contempt, the men with their furtive movements & blank faces. I feel sorry for Stacey, her face looks like it's been stepped on, her body looks like angel food, almost to beautiful to look atHer boyfriend probably doesn't when he hits her'. And the temperature just keeps rising.

U2 "Electrical Storm (William Orbit Remix)"

It's William Orbit day today :-)

Depeche Mode "Walking In My Shoes (William Orbit's Random Carpet Full Length Mix)"

William Orbit "Water From A Vine Leaf (Underworld Remix)"

Just heard this track in an episode of CSI:New York ("Recycling") today, and since the brand new album by William Orbit also was released today - see elsewhere on these pages - I thought it would be more than appropiate to post the track. Here is the Underworld remix, available as an album only bonus track to the Strange Cargo Greatest Hits package, 16 tracks including the original version of Water From A Vine Leaf. The vocals are by Beth Orton.

William Orbit Hello Waveforms (iTunes Exclusive Bonus Track Edition) [full album]

PROGRESSIVE-SOUNDS.COM: William Orbit is a man of many respectable accomplishments in his career. Starting with the critically acclaimed and pioneering ambient solo album 'Strange Cargo' in 1987, he unknowingly planted the seeds for a genre that continues to gain a massive audience worldwide. Almost twenty years since his first album was released, William provides yet another astounding ambient masterpiece that combines beautiful soundscapes, esoteric beats, and the perfect hint of vocals. The album is titled 'Hello Waveforms' and is easily one of his finest masterpieces of his career.

The first track is titled 'Sea Green' and is a perfect opener for this album. Beautiful pads and little melodies are so addicting it makes the listener wish the song would keep going non-stop. An element that always puts Orbit at the top of the producer's list is the way he goes above and beyond just knob twiddling. The listener is always captured with elements of guitar riffs and other live performances that blend perfect with the synthesized ambient sounds. It’s almost like being in a cyber fairy-tale.

For those who can't get enough of Orbit's melodic hooks and liquid analog sounds there is plenty to be heard on tracks like 'You Know Too Much About Flying Saucers' and 'Who Owns the Octopus'. With the rapid growth of the chill-out music scene, William Orbit still has a signature sound that is second to none. One the stand-out tracks of this disc is 'Fragamosia' and is a perfect blend of slightly more uptempo beats, organic pads, a nice guitar solo, complimented by a dark and haunting quartet.

As the album moves forward it pushes the creative envelope a bit further with tracks like 'Surfin' and 'They Live In The Sky; which take on a bit more of a live feel. Drums carry on with a live-performance as opposed to being programmed. Vocals are silky smooth and guitars subtly sit in the mix rounding out the keyboards and bubbly synthesizers in a complimentary way. The final track of this disc is 'Colours From Nowhere' and is the perfect ending track to a fantastic musical journey. Most of this song is an ambient feel while the breakdown is accompanied by a brief set of beats, then a nice guitar solo winds the song almost all the way down until the listener is then gently let go into the fading swells and pads. It's as if the cyber ferry-tale was too good to be true and the album is finished.

William Orbit has managed to create yet another amazing album that puts him at the top of his game. With the perfect blend of programmed beats, live performances, and unique swelling sounds, Hello Waveforms is nothing short of pure artistic expression that is refreshing for anybody to listen to, appreciate, and fall in love with.

The Delays "Valentine (Freeform 5 Mix)" [CD only]

CLICKMUSIC.COM: There's a magic formula to good music, and not enough bands know it. You can turn a good song in to a great one simply by sticking a load of interesting electronica onto it; beepy noises and buzzing boxes of fun - every little helps.

Delays have paid attention. 'Lost In A Melody' was a step in the right direction - a sublime slice of eighties pop music. 'Valentine' is even better.

At some point in the last few months, Greg Gilbert and co have swallowed Donna Summer and the Pet Shop Boys (hold on a second... - Ed). Kicking off with some sublime electrobeats and falsetto vocals straight from heaven, stabbing guitars, impossible melodies and sweeping synth lines soon join in. Somewhere inbetween dance and indie without ever becoming as embarassing as Kasabian, 'Valentine''s appeal is instantaneous.

This is what could happen if every band listened to Girls Aloud. We wish they would.

Bark Psychosis: "Burning the City (Alt Mix)" [CD only]

PITCHFORKMEDIA.COM: It isn't only in dreams where familiar objects and strange ones exchange their significances. Charting a slightly different course over an old map-- one that prioritizes looking in new directions above blazing new trails-- Colin Bradley's alt mix preserves all the kid-gloved elegance of the original while recasting the slant of its light. The electric piano's white satin gets a deeper sheen; once-splashy drums echo rudimentarily; tinkling wind-chimes are supplanted by an eerie rooftop twitter. If the overall impression is one of fog, Graham Sutton's voice moves through it like a carried lamp, beaconing consistently until it, too, gutters away into the murk.

COMING SOON: Byrne, Eno Revisit 'Bush Of Ghosts'

BILLBOARD.COM: David Byrne and Brian Eno's landmark 1981 collaboration "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" will be reissued March 28 via Nonesuch. The new edition features seven previously unreleased tracks that date from the original recording sessions.

By 1979, the artists had worked together on the Talking Heads albums "More Songs About Buildings and Food" and "Fear of Music." While recording the follow-up to the latter, "Remain in Light," they set out to make an album inspired by their fascination with the groove-driven music embodied by African artists like Fela Kuti.

The pieces were then accented by African field recordings, as well as samples of everything from talk radio shows to evangelists. Byrne and Eno were aided in the studio by Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz, bassists Bill Laswell and Tim Wright and conga player Steve Scales, who later played with Talking Heads on the tour in support of "Remain in Light."

The extra tracks on the reissue, "Pitch to Voltage," "Two Against Three," "Vocal Outtakes," "New Feet," "Defiant," "Number 8 Mix" and "Solo Guitar With Tin Foil," are bolstered by a film for album track "Mea Culpa" by Bruce Connor.

While the decidedly un-poppy "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" threw many Talking Heads fans for a loop at the time of its release, it has since come to be viewed as an important forerunner in the burgeoning world of sample-based music later perfected by artists like Thievery Corporation and DJ Shadow.

Willie Nelson "Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" (U.S. store only)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country music outlaw Willie Nelson' sang "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" and "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" more than 25 years ago. He released a very different sort of cowboy anthem this Valentine's Day.

"Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" may be the first gay cowboy song by a major recording artist. But it was written long before this year's Oscar-nominated "Brokeback Mountain" made gay cowboys a hot topic.

Available exclusively through iTunes, the song features choppy Tex-Mex style guitar runs and Nelson's deadpan delivery of lines like, "What did you think all them saddles and boots was about?" and "Inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out."

The song, which debuted Tuesday on Howard Stern's satellite radio show, was written by Texas-born singer-songwriter Ned Sublette in 1981. Sublette said he wrote it during the "Urban Cowboy" craze and always imagined Nelson singing it.

Someone passed a copy of the song to Nelson back in the late 1980s and, according to Nelson's record label, Lost Highway, he recorded it last year at his Pedernales studio in Texas.

Nelson has appeared in several Western movies and sings "He Was a Friend of Mine" on the "Brokeback Mountain" soundtrack.

Quentin Harris "Let's Be Young (Ashley Beedle Edit)"

NRK Records have signed up one of the most buzzing tracks of 2005; Quentin Harris’ “Let’s Be Young”. Already being hailed as a modern classic by the house fraternity and beyond, this string laden, horn led track has been featuring heavily in DJ sets around the globe. This release sees a club friendly Ashley Beedle edit, taking time out from his X-Press 2 duties! Already a Pete Tong Essential new tune, “Let’s Be Young” is heading up a strong resurgence in New York house music at the moment. The track fuses a deep Detroit techno vibe into its NY house swing, whilst the horn riff makes it a contender for most uplifting record of the moment! Tech-soul at its finest! It’s of no surprise then that Quentin hails from the Motor City of Detroit. With his roots in hip-hop, and a career that started with the then (unknown) Slum Village, Eminem and D12, Quentin produced for local hip-hop act The Masterminds, before making the move to New York City. Now turning his attention to the more soulful side of house, Quentin is currently part of Timmy Regisford’s Club Shelter, and now travels the world DJing and has been behind recent remixes of Bah Samba, Donnie and Blaze.

EPO-555 "Harry Mämbourg" (WindowsMedia, 96K preview)

COMING SOON: Yeah Yeah Yeahs: "Gold Lion (Diplo's Optimo Remix)"

PITCHFORKMEDIA.COM: It's unclear what kind of gotcha DJing Diplo's on when he debuts a remix for a track people have been dying to hear, before said track has even dropped. The new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, few of us know, has a jingle-jangle campfire vibe to it at times, so this remix is a bit misleading: kitschier, crazier. Diplo turns up the flux capacitor on Karen O's already heaving chorus and transfigures it into Q*Bert-style squawk. In doing so he makes a suitably sleepy slow-burner into the kind of contortionist freakout he's done well with Gwen and the Bloc boyz and that M.I.A. person. Gone are guitars, in are the squelch and synths. Fitting; here's Karen's chorus-time coo: "Take our hands out of our control."

COMING SOON: Chicken Lips: "White Dwarf (The Juan Maclean Remix)"

PITCHFORKMEDIA.COM: After the Less Than Human vs. Human After All beef found its way into his back-to-Homework remix of "Human After All", Juan takes out his late Moodymann frustrations on Chicken Lips. Near-wholly disobedient to the original, the remix hybrids two of Juan's own tracks, "G.M.E.L.T." and "Venus", chops the vocal melody but ups the funk, something near Bootsy's "Give Me". At the 4:45 mark it's straight geek of "Venus": Synths and vocoder combine forces and race to the finish, a one-night stand with the Weird Science girl.

Tosca "Züri (Lindstrom & Prins Thomas Nordic Flavour Mix)"

Tosca have invited some artist friends to create their very own versions of the Tosca J.A.C. album tracks. This 12-inch teaser features 3 handpicked tunes from the forthcoming Souvenirs Remix album. Mr. Stereotyp makes us party wild with his stereotyp need no pyjams mix, a bass-heavy dub rocker. DJ DSL delivers a splendid version of Rondo Acapricio. Focused on his hip hop roots he reliably adds some extra flavours the very special DSL way. Finally Hans-Peter Lindstrom, remixer of the moment, puts his hands on Zueri, elegantly translating the original track into a space disco session - simply wonderful!

Chicken Lips "Sweetcow (Lindstrom Remix)"

Stafford based Dean Meredith and Andy Meecham have their history firmly planted in pioneering music. As Bizarre Inc the boys defined early acid house and rave culture (and cemented it’s crossover potential with 3 UK top ten hits) and as Chicken Lips they have been the catalyst for the now well established punk-funk, nu-disco and electro-house scenes.

Signing to Kingsize Records in 1999, the home of Andy Meecham’s Sir Drew alias since the demise of Acid Jazz offshoot Athletico in the mid ‘90’s (where Meredith had also been recordings his Psychedelia Smith material) the lads were reunited and Chicken Lips was born.

EPs entitled “Big Legs”, “Git Back” and “Shoe Beast” not only displayed the guys irreverent sense of humour but also their love for the combination of live and electronic sounds. These releases found favour with everyone from Pete Tong to James Lavelle and set the Chicken Lips stall out perfectly before the release of their debut LP, “Echoman”, in 2000.

The second studio album, “Extended Play”, followed in 2002 and yet again marked out the boys as innovators with it’s rich combination of disco and dub vibes sounding like nothing else around at the time. In between these two albums, the singles kept coming and one, “He Not In”, managed to blow out of control and slowly become an anthem courtesy of support by a massive range of DJs. It’s NY Electro-Disco stylings, huge riff and swaggering beats are widely credited as the catalyst for the ‘80’s electro revival. The track also broke out of the underground and onto our screens as it became the soundtrack to a very successful Smirnoff Vodka advertising campaign.

Always moving forward and never looking back or resting on their laurels, Dean and Andy have always ignored their successes and ploughed on with the most important thing, their music. Aside from their own productions, this “heads down” work ethic has manifested itself in remix work for other artists. Remixes for Tiga, The Kills, Maurice Fulton, Supergrass, Morcheeba, Hard Fi, Justin Robertson and Playgroup to name just a few have spanned the Chicken Lips career – making the duo one of the most sought after and original remixers on the planet.

If studio work wasn’t enough, Chicken Lips collaborator and close friend, Stevie “Fella” Kotey, has been enlisted as Chicken Lips DJ. Week in, week out Kotey takes the dancefloor sound of Chicken Lips to a worldwide audience while also keeping his studio cohorts constantly aware of new sounds to absorb, mutate and (in most cases) better!

Dean and Andy continue to work on solo projects; Andy with Emperor Machine and Dean with White Light Circus and, as you’d expect, both are steeped in the sort of quality and innovation you’d expect from such consummate producers and musicians.

Following the departure of their long-term A&R, Julian Shay, from Kingsize Records, Chicken Lips have relocated to Adrift Records for their third studio album which will feature Spanish based vocalist Jonny Spencer. With their music drawing a multitude of influences such as Dub, electro, disco, house, funk and soul of all types yet still managing to sound fresh and avoid become staid, it’s impossible to guess where Chicken Lips will head next, although you can guarantee it’s quality.

Fink "Pretty Little Thing"

NINJATUNE.NET: It's been a long time coming... Hot off the heels of his featured appearance on 'Deadman' from Nitin Sawhney's 'Philtre' album, Fink's debut record is now in the can. "Pretty Little Thing / Biscuits" are the first offerings from the new LP, available on limited 7" and for download. Both tracks were recorded in Fink's 7Dials attic studio - bursting with records, guitars, computers, mics, and on occasion, his band...

"Pretty Little Thing" was the first track Fink recorded for the project and is pretty much a solo affair - he started it on a Friday night and by Monday morning the direction of his music had changed forever. Pretty Little Thing was the start of it all, a song about a guy, a girl, and a party....

"Biscuits" - recorded with his band (comprising of ex-Prankster rhythm section Guy Whittaker on bass and Tim Thornton on drums) is the true story of Fink's realisation that a day job is a trap. The title is a reference to his first job in the big smoke as the tea and biscuit boy for a large corporation. A hybrid of blues, soul, beats and dub this is a real taster for the album to follow....

Fink's debut Ninja Tune LP "Biscuits for Breakfast" will be released in April 2006... Keep an eye out for Fink and his band on the road.

Coldcut "Man In A Garage (Snap Ant Version)"

NINJATUNE.NET: John Matthias for a beautiful, understated piece of folk&b which demonstrates one of the many strengths to be found on the album it’s taken from - the combination of great, catchy song writing with contemporary production smarts. The result is an aching, melancholy glitch-blues. Matthias is perhaps best known for “Small Town Shining,” the album he released on Matthew Herbert’s Accidental Records. In Coldcut he has found perhaps the perfect foil. This is the sort of tune that sidles up on you quietly and then burrows deep into your head until you find yourself singing the hook in the shower, in the supermarket, on the bus, yes, even in your garage. Already being hammered on daytime radio in France, it’s hard to put your finger on its charm, but nevetheless it is charming. Mixes and version here achieve the Coldcut ideal of cutting and pasting the original into weird and wonderful new shapes. Snap Ant - championed by Ladytron - actually re-record the track as an off-kilter and unholy combination of Bowie, swamp blues and punk funk. Bonobo takes the tempo up and gives it a little bit of latino shuffle. Daedelus swirls the thing into a backward, psychedelic bleep fest. Finally, Nick Franglen of Lemon Jelly stretches the tune out into an epic, string-soaked cry from the heart. With “Sound Mirrors” already winning plaudits and critical acclaim, “Man In A Garage” is a further reminder, if one were needed, that the Godfathers are well and truly back, making the best music of a long and illustrious career.
